English: WordPress Plugin – Nextgen Smooth Gallery
What is this?

Nextgen Smooth Gallery: A WordPress Plugin that allows you to use the amazing JonDesign’s Smooth Gallery on your NextGen-Gallery galleries.

What is NextGen-Gallery?

The best WordPress gallery manager plugin with over 200.000 downloads: NextGen-Gallery.

It is also a gallery viewer, but we think Smooth Gallery has a better presentation for images.

What is Smooth Gallery?

A JavaScript, open-source, search-engine friendly, cool way to present your images.

As they say “Because a Picture is Worth a Thousand Words”, so check it out.

WOW, fantastic… Who do I have to kill to get one of these?

Fortunatelly, no one =). Just follow these simple instructions:

  • Download the newest version of our plugin Nextgen Smooth Gallery
    1. To avoid incompatibility, JonDesign’s SmoothGallery 2.0 is already included on our download.
    2. Download v.1.1
  • Unzip it on /wp-content/plugins/
  • Activate it on your wordpress admin panel

You are good to go.

How to use it?

In order to use NextGen Gallery, you were suposed to write [ gallery=12345 ] on your post/page where you wanted your gallery to show up.

To use Nextgen Smooth Gallery, just change [ gallery=12345 ] to [smooth=12345]

That simple 🙂

Admin Page

No more going to the source code. Set the default values for all your galleries from the admin page.

Special Feature – Preview

See what your gallery will look like before publishing it

Special Feature – IFrames

Jon Design’s Smooth Gallery is known for not working properly along other JS libraries like prototype and jquery (some of your plugins might use them).

Now you can make all your galleries appear inside an IFrame, therefore overcoming this problem

Specific Gallery

If you want a specific gallery to display a configuration other than your default one, you can use:

[smooth=id:xx; width:xx; height:xx; timed:xx; delay:xx; transition:xx; arrows:xx;
        info:xx; carousel:xx; text:xx; open:xx; links:xx; margin:; align:;]
        id: The id you were already using on [ gallery=id ]
     width: Width of your image container
    height: Height of your image container
     timed: true/false to slideshow your images
     delay: Time in miliseconds before moving to the next image
transition: Animation when moving to the next image: fade, fadeslideleft,
            continuoushorizontal, continuousvertical, crossfade, fadebg
    arrows: true/false to see the arrows for next/previous images
      info: true/false to show the image description
  carousel: true/false to see all thumbnails
      text: Text relative to the Carousel
      open: true/false to show the carousel opened/closed
     links: true/false to click on the image and open the original image alone
    margin: Distance from the gallery border to the text
     align: Gallery alignment: left, right, center, float_left, float_right

You can use any option above and in any order:

[smooth=id:4; arrows:true; carousel:true; links:true; width:500; height:300;]

Old versions

For compatibility with old versions, you can also use:

[smooth=galleryId, width, height, timed, arrows, carousel, links]
[smooth=12345, 400, 400, false, true, true, true]

Last but not least

It is completely free of charge, but we would appreciate if you leave a comment or write a post about it.

    You actually make it appear really easy along with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually one thing which I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and very extensive for me. I am having a look ahead on your next submit, I’ll attempt to get the cling of it!

    Great code, thanks.

    It would be good to have the option to keep the carousel on top, and also to be able to display the current carousel selection without clicking to allow fast scrolling through the images.

    Thanks again,

    First off thanks for developing this plug-in, seems to work very well for the most part. And I am going to donate if I can get it to work like I want it to on my site.

    That being said, I found one place it isn’t working well and it is something that I’d like to see if it’s possible to fix as it would make designing cleaner multi-gallery pages much easier.

    http://www.imagesbytracysmith.com/cont/portfolio/
    I want to have multiple galleries on the same page. Which works if I just stack them on top of each other. HOWEVER, I have a portfolio page where there are sliders/accordions which hide the galleries until you click on one and then that one appears. The smooth gallery slideshow appears, but when you try to close the carousel it doesn’t slide all the way up (moves a little), it moves a little and just screens the opacity back. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I’ve tried it with 3 or 4 different slider/accordion plugins and get the same thing (Occasionally the first one you open will function correctly but the others won’t when you open them).
    -WP 3.0.4
    -NextGen Gallery 1.7.3
    -NextGen Smooth Gallery 1.2
    -Wordpress Tabs Slides 2.0.1 (for slides, also tried HacKadelic Sliding Notes and SlideDeck for WP)
    -Visual theme from Organized Themes

    thanks in advance for any help you can provide

    I think the trick is to make sure you put the shortcode into the HTML edit pane, not the Visual pane. Go to the edit window of your page or post, click on the HTML tab in the editing menu, delete anything that’s there already. Then paste in the shortcode and save. Good luck -ab

    Really like this plug in. I spent a long time trying out different gallery plug ins and shadowbox methods of displaying images before settling on this.

    A couple of comments for future revisions that users/friends have raised – would be great if they could be addressed in future versions.

    1) Arrows are not visible enough. Level of opacity is not good and they’re not big enough on larger images.

    2) Text on the overlays appears in black on a dark opaque grey so is not easily readable. Text should be white.

    3) I’ve cropped all my images to the frame size (i’m using 600×600) but it would be great to enable larger images to appear resized within the set frame rather than cropped. the square frame works well with the page layout (and means you don’t have to scroll each picture like a lot of other plugins) but not all photographs are easily cropped to square.

    Steps to link each image to it’s own page

    1. Install the NextGEN Custom Fields plugin

    2. Use the plugin to create an image custom field (In this example mine was named “Page Link”) and assign it to your NextGEN gallery.

    3. Go into the gallery and add a link for each image in the custom field box beside it.

    4. Open nggSmoothSharedFunctions.php and edit the line:
    $aux[“link”] = BASE_URL . “/” . $picture->path .”/” . $picture->filename;

    To say:
    $aux[“link”] = nggcf_get_field($picture->pid, ‘Page Link’);

    Where ‘Page Link’ is the name of your custom field.

    5. Optional: at the bottom of the file edit target=”_blank” to be target=”_self” so that it opens in the same window and edit title=”View project info” to change the hover text.

    Now your smooth gallery images should link to whatever link you put in the custom field.

    I have tried to install the plug in and it works, but I can’t access the .css file through my wordpress admin page. The navigation menu that I am using is a drop down menu and with smooth gallery installed, it drops down behind the gallery, not on top of the gallery frame. I need to change the z index value, but when I tried doing it manually and then uploading the change, I get a message saying that “Sorry, NextGEN Smooth Gallery works only in Combination with NextGEN Gallery” even though both are installed and activated.

    apologies, the line at 55 should be a link to the “HistoryManager.js” in the script folder

    script type=”text/javascript”
    src=”‘.SMOOTH_URL.’/SmoothGallery/scripts/HistoryManager.js”>
    </script

    (just remove the line breaks, and add "” at the end.

    hey there, I thought I’d add a slight modification to this, to active the history/ SEO links, i hope someone finds it useful.

    (Line numbers presume you do them in order)

    Within nggSmoothSharedFunctions.php:

    add a line at 55:

    add a line at 119:
    $out .= “useHistoryManager: true”.”,”;

    add a line at 143:
    $out .= ‘HistoryManager.start(); ‘;

    now links look like this:
    http://www.yoursite.com/galleryname/#myGallery_2-picture(7)

    not the prettiest, but certainly working!

    Hey. This ‘the’ best plugin ever. I love it’s flexibility and so easy to use it given it’s integration with nextgen galleries. I’ve adjusted it to suit my needs at http://www.markflower.com

    However has anybody managed to be able to pull an image set from flickr or picasa into a smooth gallery? I’ve looked everywhere and given that I think it is a limitation of nextgen gallery it may not be possible. Just hoping the may be a way as it will probably speed up the loading of my images if the full size images where pulling off another server as my host is a bit slow.

    Here’s hoping 🙂

    Hi – Thanks for this great plugin.

    I’m using Smoothgallery addon for NextGen, and my images get cropped within the 400×300 slideshow size I set. Is there a way I could have them in full size, keeping height/width ratio, just adding black borders where need?

    Sorry if I’ve missed the obvious, but I’m stuck.

    It looks as if the Smooth Gallery player would mask the picture displayed in it’s actual (default thumb ?) size, so it appears as cropped.

    I would like the picture resized, with aspect ration kept. How can I do that?

    TIA.

I have tried [smooth=x] [smooth=id:x;] [smooth=id:x] etc. but nothing works. Also change many options, like activated Iframe as suggested by inkadu but without success…

    I just installed the plugin on a client site and it does indeed work well. Much better than re-loading the page every time. I found one tiny bug though. Sorry if this has already been mentioned.

    I used the PHP code in a page template (PodsCMS template actually). The “Pictures” tab/link was showing in the example on the options page, but not in my actual page. I finally figured out that it was in the CSS. In jd.gallery.css and the “.jdGallery a.carouselBtn” class, “bottom” was set to “0;”. I changed it to “-20px;” (the height of the link) and it is now visible.

    Hope this helps someone! 🙂

    Thank you thank you for this Awesome plugin!

    It is brilliant. However, I was wondering if there is a way to integrate or call a picasa or flickr gallery into it instead of only the nextgen galleries, or be able to create a nextgen gallery from a picasa or flickr image set located externally. I’ve had a pretty good look online using google but havent found anything that will allow me to still use your plugin…

    Smooth Gallery and Nextgen compliment each other so well, the gallery management is awesome, I would just like to have the option of pulling the images from perhaps a faster server offsite like flickr and picasa albums.

    Cheers

    Would love to try the Smooth Gallery, but I am wondering if it is still supported by the developer and how compatible it is with the current (and coming) version of WordPress. According to the plugin site, there have been no updates in over 500 days, so it seems risky.

I then save the options and put the text [smooth=id:1;] on my gallery page to show gallery 1 (which I have checked appears OK in NEXTGen gallery). But when I look at the page a blank space is shown the size of what the gallery would have been but no gallery. Any ideas what could be going wrong? regards, Scott

    I love Smooth Gallery and use it a lot.
    I have a problem, though, and apparently I’m not alone. The shortcode
    [smooth=1]
    works fine in a post or page.
    BUT: I’m trying to add it outside the post, in a custom page template (frankly to hide it from a client who can’t deal with shortcode) so I do:
    php echo do_shortcode(‘[smooth=1]’);
    (obviously wrapped in the usual php tag stuff)
    And it doesn’t work.
    It does work if I do:
    php echo do_shortcode(‘[nggallery=1]’);
    So it appears to be a glitch in Smooth Gallery.
    I found one thing that says it has to do with some of the PHP tags being incomplete but they all look fine to me; maybe that referred to an earlier version?
    Any help much appreciated. Thanks,
    Jim

    I have the following at the top:
    {?php $gallery = get_post_meta($post->ID, ‘gallery’, true); ?}

    And I’ve been trying to call it using:

    The problem I’m running into is that when both plugins load their respective JS on the same page they stop working.

    Hi all. I think without any doubt this is the best way to play NextGen galleries.
    My personal hope is to see carousel in a separated “frame” on the top or at the bottom of the gallery. I mean I would find very useful to let users scroll thumbnails more selectively and dealing with them in a separated part instead inside the gallery. Indeed, it will be so useful to let use users the arrows of their keyboard to surf forward and back in the slideshow.

    Thanks for any reply

    Any chance of new version of your wonderful plugin that will work with a thematic theme? Thematic calls jQuery.noConflict() (see: http://docs.jquery.com/Core/jQuery.noConflict), which in turn causes use of $ to break, which breaks the JS produced on line 117 of nggSmoothSharedFunctions.php.

    I changed line 117 to use the “jQuery” method instead of $:
    var myGallery = new gallery(jQuery(“#myGallery_’.$galleryID.'”)[0], { ‘;

    but then there is an error in the JD script on line 93 (because the jQuery method doesn’t extend the dom element to have the .addClass method). I’m sure there is a way to resolve this, but I’m not very familiar with jQuery.

    … For now I have disabled the thematic dropdowns on my wordpress site. Thanks again for a fantastic plugin!

    It looks like several people commented about not seeing the entire picture in the 400×400 viewing area (only the center of it). See comments 10, 30-33 & 168 in particular. I set the thumbnail and the image size to 400×400 in NextGEN but that didn’t help. Can someone tell me what I need to do to display the entire picture in that spot?

    Hello,

    There is conflict between this fantastic plugin and another fantastic plugin (The SuperSlider Login by Diav)…

    Both uses mootools, yours is version 1.11, his version is 1.2

    In his plugin there is an option to deactivate his mootool only IF there is another plugin running the same mootool version.

    Can you increase yours in order to make them both working?

    Hi,

    I don’t know enough php markup to make this work.

    I need to embed a shortcode in a template page with a call to another php function –

    so I need to put this call:
    get_listing_galleryid() in place of the id below.

    So that the id which is already identified in my input for great real estate plugin, will automatically be put in the string for the smooth gallery for nextgen.

    Hi,

    I am trying to build a website for my sculptor, wife. Using WordPress her url is louisesoleckiweir.com.

    I am trying to put a slideshow gallery on a page called “Bronze birds gallery” using the latest Nextgen smoothgallery.
    I have photos uploaded to the gallery, http://alexrabe.de/wordpress-plugins/nextgen-gallery/ and I can preview the gallery but I cannot get the gallery to show up on the page.

    The Smoothgallery plugin site: http://uninuni.com/wordpress-plugin-nextgen-smooth-gallery/
    says I must put this script, [smooth=id:130;] in the Post, which is actually a page.

    I put it in the body of the post (using the wordpress dashboard edit pages function) but if you look at the page http://louisesoleckiweir.com/bronze-birds-gallery you will see that all I see is this script instead of the Gallery (with the id 130).

    What am I doing wrong?

    On my wordpress site I use the small-pommo-integration plugin (with jQuery) as well as the Nextgen Smooth Gallery plugin (with mootools). The gallery stuff works well but the pommo plugin doesn’t. With a lot of hacking with the writer of that plugin, we’ve found out the # attribute is not accessiblem anymore – normally accessed with getElementById.

    From JonDesign forum, it seems this can be easily solved by using the namespaced version of his plugin. Is it an idea to include that one instead of the general one?

    Hi there,

    Loving the plugin, but there’s one little thing I’d like to do with it which it doesn’t seem to do right out of the box.

    The links option currently links to the bigger version of the image, what if I wanted it to link to specific page instead of the image? Perhaps defined in the image description or title within NextGen gallery management? Is this possible?

    Thanks for the effort you put in to creating this fantastic plugin.

    I have found the solution. The iFrame that gets created needs to include the headers for shadowbox (or lytebox or whatever you want to use). So if you change the nggSmoothFrame.php and add

    to the header bit, then it will work (after doing the instructions i showed above).

    However, now the shadowbox is relative to the iframe and thus really small. I’m looking at how to fix the shadowbox so that it knows it was launched from within an iframe and thus needs to take the iframe’s parent as a reference point (if that’s even possible!)

    Responder
  95. Liebrand

    Hi there,

    I’ve tried to patch your great plugin to allow for integration with lytebox. I tried what has been suggested on JD’s own forum, here:

    http://smoothgallery.jondesign.net/forums/viewtopic.php?id=1676

    But that does not seem to work. I was wondering if it had to do with the fact that you added the ability for the picture to be launched in a separate window (target=blank) so I removed that. But still no luck. In that case the full image gets loaded in the little iFrame.

    Given the above instructions, could you help me out in working out what other thing needs to change to get this to work? I’ve got all the URL’s working fine, but I just can’t seem to work out where the JD gallery actually opens the image. I’m assuming this is done by the linkSelector that gets tied (?) to the open class of the anchor, but that’s about as far as I got…

    Any pointers would be great!

    /Cheers,
    Jelte

    the safest bet would be not to use the automatic upgrade in wp2.7 to do your nextgen gallery upgrade..or do a backup of your existing plugin directory first before you click on that “upgrade automatically” link.. in wp2.7.

    Hi!

    I love this plugin and I been trying for days to try to make it work the way I wanted.

    How do I make the infopane for each image in the gallery to point to another URL that I specify?

    For example righ now, when the infopanes reads from the description field of the image, it will display what’s is the contents in the discription field.

    What I have been doing is to put a URL in the discription field of the image in the gallery (something like http://www.google.com) and hopeing that it will hyperlink to the website when I click on the link in the infopane.. but there is no joy yet.

    Do I have to use custom fields in this case? or this is sometihng that is already built in and I just have not found it?
    I have searched alot of websites.. alot of folks are asking for this feature but very little documentation is available on how to make this happen.

    I know there is an embed link option in ngsg which will lead the user to open up the image in the current window (if I remember correctly) or a new window but there is no option for me to specify alternative url if I do not want it to do the default.

    If you do not have this function yet in ngsg , can you code it in the next release? If this plugin has this function.. then boy oh boy.. this plugin would really become the 2nd to none plug in wordpress! Yeah.. 2nd to none!!!

    cheers, hubba.

    To make the infopane display the photo’s name instead of the name of the gallery, you need to edit line 97 of nggSmoothSharedFunctions.php like so:

    change $picture->title to $picture->alttext

    Hope that helps.

    Upon further research, it seems this has to do with the defaultTransition setting within JonDesign’s SmoothGallery. The following post recommends changing the transition mode to “crossfade” rather than “fade”.

    http://smoothgallery.jondesign.net/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=3138#p3138

    This is an optional setting within scripts/jd.gallery.js, BUT on my end at least, changing “fade” to “crossfade” does not make any difference at all. Has anybody else been able to solve this???

    I have been working on customizing the css for smoothgallery so that it matches the dark gray background of my site and also so that the image captions do not overlap the image area. I’ve got nearly everything to where I want it, BUT am having the same issue that Leigh Ann and Brian described above — namely, there is a 100% black background to smooth gallery that i haven’t been able to get rid of despite having looked through and adjusted both css/jd.gallery.css and scripts/jd.gallery.js. Stormizer mentioned that the place to do this was in jd.gallery.js, but I do not see any parameters there to adjust this. What i end up with is a thin black border around the image area – unfortunately, it really interferes with the design. Can anybody help? I have looked through all the other plugin files to try to find a reference to a #000 background but no luck. Would greatly greatly appreciate any tips!!!! THANKS AGAIN for this fabulous plugin 🙂

    Another update: the plugin also uses the syntax ‘<?=’ which is a shortcut for ‘<?php echo’ — some hosts have the PHP short code syntax disabled (as it should be), so you’ll need to replace all the shortcuts with their appropriate expansions. Or perhaps Bruno can simply upload a new version that uses standard syntax 🙂

    This plugin completely rocks!

    I only wish it had some album functions included. At this point it is only a gallery viewer, which works quite well.

    Personally, I love nextgen gallery however, I really dislike the album page.

    For example, I’d like to use this program to compile a gallery of a sample picture (one picture from each of my galleries). When clicking on the picture, it would open up the designated gallery.

    The benefits of this would be great. One, the album page would better match the gallery pages. And two, it would greatly reduce and clean up the space on the album page.

    Is this something I could do on my own? If so, how would I do this?

    I realize that the plugin is for a gallery, so I don’t expect this idea to be incorporated. However, I thought it might be a useful idea that may be implemented at a later time.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hey all, For those having pic not showing in firefox. when you insert code to call the gallery, be sure to insert the code when using the html tab or it will insert tags and that will not show your pics properly. Just a heads up as that was my problem.

    Consegui arrumar. O problema era a já conhecida incompatibilidade com o prototype. No entanto tentei usar a versão 1.2 do SmoothGallery que no site dizem que da pra ser usado com o prototype (apesar de nao ser recomendado) e ainda assim nao funcionou. De qualquer jeito foi só desativar os plugins que usavam essas biblioteca que funcionou.
    Obrigado novamente.

    Olha, parabén pelo plugin, muito bacana e fácil de usar. Só que estou com um probleminha com ele. Fica eternamente carregando e nunca termina. Ja rodei num servidor remoto e na minha maquina e acontece a mesma coisa. Pensei que pudesse ser como o caso do frame em branco citado acima e desativei um monte de plugin mas também nao funcionou. Alguma idéia do que poderia ser? Obrigado.

    This plugin is excellent as I am a FIRM believer that NextGen is the best gallery plugin around. I just have one quick question… instead of the embedLinks going to the image, is there a way to force it to a url (either within the current blog or not)?? I am able to do this if I embed smoothgallery into my template pages (as seen on http://www.jimmievanzantmusic.net/), but I would like to make it a bit easier for my clients to add an image and link it to a webpage.

    Your time and work is definitely appreciated — its people like you that make everything possible with wordpress!

    hi … fabulous plug-in but i am having an issue the carousel behavior in safari 3.1.1 (macintosh). clicking on the pictures tab or the thumbnails caused the carousel to fade slightly and drop down rather than to disappear but for the pictures tab. only an issue in safari (behavior the same using other themes and without any tweaking although i’ve seen other uses of the plug-in where behavior in safari is as expected). any help would be very much appreciated!

    thanks.

    Hi all,
    The tags or code to change colors is at jd.gallery.css (.SmoothGalleryscritps)
    I managed to change the background color from black to white and the text to grey (basically, I tried to inverse the dark so it matched the white background of the site i was working on. There is a tag to play with the opacity of the “carrousel” too in there. Sweet.

    Anyway, if anyone has found out the easy way to make the image open in lightbox (or sort of) please share. I am not any good in this scripting (that change color was a rather by accident or brute force), so any “simple” recomendation will be appreciated. Basically the plugin (when clicked) will open the full-picture in a new window, what i had in mind is for it to open in a lightbox sort of interface.

    Thx!

    Hi! Thanks for the great plugin, works perfect!

    Can anyone tell me how to turn off the info pane as well as change the border color?

    I tried Grant’s suggestion above, but I don’t know enough about php to make it work.

    Thanks!

    “Bjorn: I’m pretty sure that’s because I forgot to mention that you cannot use Smooth Gallery along Prototype or Jquery (JavaScript Frameworks). So if any of your WP plugins use them, then you got a blank frame.”

    And is there a way to get it work, without disabling any other plugin ?

    I’ve been running NextGen Gallery 0.95 fine for a few weeks and just found your plugin. However when I activate the NextGen Smooth Gallery plugin running WordPress 2.5.1, it says “Sorry, NextGEN Smooth Gallery works only in Combination with NextGEN Gallery”. Any ideas what the error indicates? Does it only work with version 0.90 of NextGen Gallery?

    Hi, I’m trying to use NextGen smooth gallery here: http://sur-taal.org/media/ (scroll to the bottom) but it doesn’t seem to work. I just get a blank box. Looking at the source code, it seems like some HTML/JS is being generated, so I’m not sure if it is a problem with the generated code, or some conflicting script.

    Hello!
    Works great!

    One question, Similar to Leigh Ann, I’m looking to change the background color for pictures that are narrower than the window (IE Portraits) I’ve got whitespace two the left and right. I’ve been goofing with any and every config file in the packages, but can’t find the magic variable to change the white to black…

    See http://briantillman.com/blog/vacations/puerto-penasco-march-2008/ as an example.

    Thanks Much,
    Brian

    Hi Christian,

    I got this done!!

    I created 400*400 thumbnails and used these thumbnails as source images on the pages. And when users click these 400*400 images they’ll be shown the full size image in a new page.

    Thanks for this site.

    Hi dinakar,
    what about resizing the large pictures to 400×400 pixels with some image manipulation program; I’m using the GIMP for this. Although I don’t know whether NextGen generates thumbnails for your pictures, I think that you’ll get good results by resizing them yourself.

    Hi ,
    I have added the plugin NexGen gallery and then added the add on Smooth Gallery for it. I have created the gallery by specying [smooth=7, 400, 400, false, true, false, true]in my post. Am able to get the pictures on my post. But there is one problem. Instead of getting the full image in that 400×400 frame, am getting only some part of the entire image.(as my images are 1600*1200). But i want the entire image to be shown in that 400*400 frame. How can i get this done

    Regards
    Dinakar

    This is fantastic. I only have one issue I’m trying to figure out. I’d like the background/box to be a certain color to be seamless into my page background. How do I change the background color of the smooth gallery? I am able to change it within NextGen gallery and that works when only using NextGen, but when I use Smooth NextGen gallery is still has the black background.

    My issue is that I’m using both vertical and horizontal images and find that sizing the whole gallery to accommodate both leaves extra blank space in the gallery, which shows as the gallery background color. When I change the gallery background color to match the page background color, this is not noticeable at all and it looks very nice. but I’m not sure how to do that within the Smooth Nextgen Gallery.

    excelente plugin que optimiza ainda mais o NexGen! bom trabalho sem dúvida!

    mas há aqui um pequeno problema… no browser Safari a galeria não funciona… no meu mac só mesmo no firefox é que funciona… ah! testei também no Camino e funciona bem.

    acontece com mais alguém não funcionar no Safari?

    Hi excellent extension of NextGen 🙂
    I cannot get it to work in Firefox 2
    I get the thumbnails along the top ok and they move ok but no picture in the middle.
    The NextGen slideshow works fine, just not the smooth gallery.
    It works in IE7.0 ok as well – just not in Firefox
    Any idea what could be the problem?

    thanks

    Bjorn: I’m pretty sure that’s because I forgot to mention that you cannot use Smooth Gallery along Prototype or Jquery (JavaScript Frameworks). So if any of your WP plugins use them, then you got a blank frame.

    Ralf: My plugin just shows the images, my thumbnails were created using NextGen, so I think it’s just a case of fine tunning the settings in the admin area.

    Well, in the next days I’m going to upgrade the plugin to add the suggestion of our friend Grant and to allow the use of Smooth Gallery with the WordPress 2.5 built-in galleries.

    Have a great weekend

    Very nice, like to integrate it. But there is something i really dislike: look at number 6/16 of your example, vertical pictures are cut. the face, which is the important part of this picture, is gone, so the preview look strange to me. this is a common problem of most gallerys or addons, maybe this colud be more dynamically fit the form of the picture,…, guess this an idea for the long term 😉 ralf

    consider adding (showInfopane: false/true)

    var myGallery = new gallery($(“myGallery_’.$galleryID.'”), {timed: ‘.$timed.’, showArrows: ‘.$showArrows.’, showCarousel: ‘.$showCarousel.’, embedLinks: ‘.$embedLinks.’, showInfopane: false});

    I just hard coded it in for mine and it seems to work…

    Ah, uma observação:
    se for usar a criação automática de miniaturas (thumbnails) – usando o resizer.php – é preciso ter a biblioteca GD (ou GD2) – responsável por tratar imagens – funcionando no teu servidor de PHP.
    Eu uso o WAMP5, então foi só clicar no ícone da barra de tarefas > PHP settings > PHP extensions > php_gd2. Pronto! =P
